Delhi Horror: Mercedes G-Wagon Runs Over 3 Pedestrians On Footpath In Vasant Kunj, One Dead; Police Detains The Driver

A high-speed BMW car lost control late Saturday night in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area and rammed into three people sleeping on a footpath near Ambience Mall. The car moved at a very high speed and hit the victims before the driver could stop it. Eyewitnesses said the driver struggled to control the vehicle as it swerved suddenly on the road.

The impact left the victims with severe injuries, and emergency teams rushed them to nearby hospitals for treatment. The incident shocked residents and raised fresh concerns about road safety in the upscale southwest Delhi locality.

According to the sources, one among the three is dead and the other two are suffering serious injuries. 

Police Detain Driver and Begin Probe Into Rash Driving Case

Police detained the BMW driver at the spot soon after the accident and started an investigation into rash and negligent driving. The vehicle carries a Himachal Pradesh registration number, and police are now checking ownership details and verifying the driver’s identity. Officers said they will confirm the presence of alcohol only after receiving medical test reports.

The accident took place right in front of Ambience Mall, an area known for heavy late-night traffic. Police sealed the site, called in a forensic team to study the damage, and asked eyewitnesses to share information to help the investigation.

Delhi Police said, “At around 2:33 AM, a PCR call about a road accident was received at Vasant Kunj North police station. When the police reached the spot, they found a Mercedes G63 in a damaged condition and three injured people – aged 23, 35, and 23 – lying at the location. All three worked at a restaurant in Ambience Mall. They were immediately taken to the hospital. During the medical examination, Rohit, aged 23 and a resident of Chamoli, Uttarakhand, was declared dead, while the other two are still undergoing treatment.

The driver, identified as Shivam (29), a resident of Karol Bagh, New Delhi, has been caught. At the time of the incident, he was driving the car with his wife and elder brother. Initial investigation suggests that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a pole where the three victims were standing at an auto stand. It is being reported that the accused was returning home after attending a wedding. The car belongs to Shivam’s friend Abhishek. Necessary legal action is being taken.”

The Delhi Police have launched a detailed investigation into the accident and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to understand the sequence of events. Officers are studying whether the vehicle’s speed, the driver’s actions or the road conditions contributed to the collision.

The police are also examining whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or any banned substance at the time. The investigation team will submit a detailed report after the forensic examination of the car and analysis of video evidence. Officials urged any eyewitnesses to share information to support the ongoing inquiry.
