The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has debunked a fake claim circulating online. The claim falsely attributes a statement to former US President Donald Trump, who allegedly blamed India for the floods in Pakistan by opening its dams in Kashmir. The PIB shared this information through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, alerting users with the caption, “DEEPFAKE VIDEO ALERT!” The government agency clarified that the video was an AI-generated deepfake and that Trump never made such a statement.
In its post, the PIB Fact Check unit explained that the video in question was artificially altered to mislead viewers. The altered video features Trump discussing the floods in Pakistan, where he claims that India’s actions caused the floods. The video falsely suggests that India opened the dams in Kashmir, releasing millions of tons of water into Pakistan. PIB emphasized that the original video, from May 30, 2025, is entirely unrelated to the false claims circulating.
The AI-generated video features Trump speaking about the floods in Pakistan, stating, “Flood news (in) Pakistan. Let me tell you the truth. Nobody tells the truth like I do. The horrible floods in Pakistan, the destruction, the tragedy, it’s not just climate, it’s not just rain, it’s India. Believe me, India opened their dams in Kashmir. Very unfair, very dangerous. They opened the gates and millions of tons of water came rushing into Pakistan through Ravi, through Chenab, through Satluj. Everybody knows it but nobody says it. I am saying it. Pakistan is suffering.”
The PIB issued a strong advisory urging the public to stay cautious and avoid falling for false claims made through AI-generated content. The advisory warned people to beware of such videos, which are designed to confuse and cause panic. The government agency emphasized that these deepfake videos are spreading misinformation.
The PIB also provided contact information for people to report such deceptive videos. It encouraged viewers to report any similar content to the PIB Fact Check unit. The public can contact them at +918799711259 or by email at factcheck@pib.gov.in. PIB’s Fact Check unit plays a crucial role in identifying and addressing misleading claims.
The PIB’s Fact Check unit works diligently to combat the spread of false information and to promote reliable, accurate news. In its efforts, the unit counters misleading claims spread by individuals or organizations that aim to distort facts. PIB’s continued efforts to monitor and debunk false narratives are crucial in maintaining trust in public information.
