The problem of soaring rape cases in India

Despite the best attempts of all the stakeholders of society, there has been no stopping to the increasing rape cases in India. Women are struggling to ensure their safety everywhere, whether it is at the home, while travelling or even at the work spaces. One of the most horrific examples of this statement is the rape and murder case of a female doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. On August 9, 2024, a doctor on the night shift was found raped and murdered in Kolkata’s state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested and in January 2025, he was convicted of rape and murder. This case was first investigated by Kolkata Police and then handed over to the CBI after a Calcutta High Court order.

How to ensure justice to the rape victims in India?

Ensuring justice to the rape victims in India will involve a comprehensive approach that includes adhering to the timelines for completing the trials in the rape cases. It also includes providing all the assistance to the victims, i.e.- financial and emotional support.
