Jaishankar Co-Chairs ‘Extremely Productive’ India-Russia Panel on Trade, Scientific Cooperation

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are set to discuss bilateral cooperation in Moscow on August 21 during Jaishankar's official visit.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday co-chaired an “extremely productive” 26th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation IRIGC-TEC along with First DPM Denis Manturov of Russia. 

“We had detailed discussions on our cooperation in a wide-ranging arena including trade & economic sector, agriculture, energy, industries, skilling, mobility, education and culture,” the EAM wrote in a post on X.

“As we meet in the backdrop of a complex geopolitical situation, made the following suggestions to make the IRIGIC-TEC an even more efficient catalyst for deepening our economic cooperation:

  • Need for a creative and innovative approach. 
  • Continuously diversify and expand our agenda through mutual consultations. 
  • Set quantifiable targets and specific timelines so that we challenge ourselves to achieve more, perhaps even surpass what we set out to do.
  • Have at least two inter-sessional meetings between the IRIGC Sessions.  And a virtual midterm review with all the Co-Chairs. 
  • Have a coordination mechanism between the Business Forum and the different Working Groups of the IRIGC-TEC, so that there is a two-way flow. 

He further expressed confidence that the outcomes of the meeting “will further drive the time-tested India-Russia partnership”.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Ministry announced that foreign ministers Sergey Lavrov and S Jaishankar will hold talks in Moscow on August 21.

In a post on X, MFA Russia had said, “The Ministers will pay special attention to the current and future avenues for promoting bilateral cooperation.”

Ahead of the talks, Jaishankar said he was “pleased to interact with prominent scholars and think tank representatives of Russia,” where he discussed India-Russia ties and broader global issues.

“Discussed India-Russia relations, contemporary world geopolitics and India’s viewpoint,” Jaishankar wrote in a post on X.

Jaishankar to Address India-Russia Business Forum Meeting

The interaction came as EAM Jaishankar embarked on a visit to Russia from Tuesday to Thursday, according to an official statement by the Ministry of External Affairs.

During his visit, Jaishankar also co-chaired the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation.

In an official statement, the ministry had said that Jaishankar’s visit comes at the invitation of First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov, the External Affairs Minister.

“Dr. S Jaishankar, will undertake an official visit to Russia on 19-21 August 2025 to co-chair the 26th Session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) scheduled for 20 August 2025.”

Jaishankar is also scheduled to address the India-Russia Business Forum meeting in Moscow.

According to the official statement, during his visit, EAM Jaishankar and Lavrov will review the bilateral agenda and share perspective on regional and global issues.
