Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday said Sangh believes that to be united, we don’t need to have uniformity, adding that we have a culture of living together in harmony.

Emphasising cultural and civilisational unity, the RSS chief said, “Hindavi, Bharatiya, and Sanatan are synonymous. These are not just geographical. We share a common DNA for the last 40,000 years.”

Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks came while he was delivering a lecture, marking the 100 years of the RSS’ completion. On Vijayadashami, this year, the RSS completed 100 years. To mark the centenary, the organisation is organising a series of programmes across the country.

At such an event in Delhi, Bhagwat delivered a lecture on ‘100 Years of RSS Journey: New Horizons’, speaking about the Indian civilisation and the idea of a ‘Hindu Rashtra (nation)’, referring to a ‘common DNA’ going back thousands of years.

At the event, defining the concept of ‘Hindu Rashtra’, he said that it has no link to ‘satta’ (power) and ‘does not mean excluding anyone’. Exploring its concept, Bhagwat also clarified the meaning of ‘Hindu’ as an identity centred around geography and traditions.

He further said, “Justice is the same for everyone. ‘Hindu Rashtra’ does not mean excluding anyone. It does not mean opposing anyone. Diversity does not cause disunity. That unity comes from uniformity is not the case. Unity is also in diversity.”

He added that the term ‘Hindu’ was used by outsiders for people living in the region, which was ‘akhand Bharat’ (undivided India), or the South Asian subcontinent.

Pressing that RSS believes we don’t need to have uniformity to be united, RSS posted, citing Bhagwat On X.

In Delhi, the RSS is organising a lecture series at Vigyan Bhawan from Aug 26 to Aug 28, 2025, where RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, on the first day, delivered a lecture on the ‘100 Years of the Sangh’s Journey – New Horizons’.
