On Friday, Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch arrested social activist Snehamayi Krishna. If you’ve followed the MUDA scam case, the one about Mysuru Urban Development Authority’s land allotment to Siddaramaiah’s wife, BM Parvathi, you probably know Krishna as the main complainant.
This time, though, he’s the one in trouble. Police say he created and shared a fake audio clip online that damaged the reputation of a government official.
Krishna showed up at the Bangalore City Civil Court for a MUDA hearing, but CCB officers picked him up just outside the building. While police took him into custody, his son went ahead and attended the court hearing.
So, what sparked all this? Former MUDA Commissioner DB Natesh filed a complaint with the CCB, accusing Krishna of making and posting a fake audio clip on Facebook that smeared his name.
The police registered an FIR at the Cyber Crime Station, charging Krishna under Section 66A of the IT Act and several sections of the BNS.
After searching Krishna’s home in Mysuru, they arrested him near the court in Bengaluru. Natesh didn’t stop at the complaint, he also handed over what he claims is evidence about the audio clip to Bengaluru’s Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh.
This isn’t the first time these names have crossed paths. Earlier, Krishna wrote a letter accusing Natesh of paying crores in bribes to Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh to get himself appointed CEO of the Karnataka State Khadi and Village Industries Board.
Shalini Rajneesh didn’t take those accusations lightly.
Just a day before Krishna’s arrest, she warned the public that making wild allegations against senior officials, without any proof, wouldn’t be tolerated. She made it clear: if you make baseless claims, you should expect action. And now, Krishna is facing exactly that.
