Bihar Elections 2025 Top Highlights:

PM Modi, during his victory speec,h said, “Even the Congress allies are beginning to understand that the Congress is drowning everyone in its negative politics. That is why, during the Bihar elections, I said that the ‘naamdar’ of the Congress is practising to drown himself and others in the Bihar elections by taking a dip in the pond.”

He added, “I have previously warned Congress allies from this very platform. I said that Congress is a liability. Congress is a parasite that wants to make a comeback by swallowing the vote bank of its allies.” 

PM Modi, in his victory speech, praised Bihar’s makhana kheer, ghamcha, and mithila shawl. He also expressed his ‘aabhaar’ as NDA goes ‘200 ke Paar.’ 

PM Modi, after the NDA’s historic sweep in Bihar elections, greeted the workers at the BJP’s headquarters in Delhi. In his speech, PM said, “Katta sarkar will never return,” while giving a big shoutout to the state. 

Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on winning four seats said, “I want to thank the people of Bihar for voting for AIMIM. I also want to thank and congratulate all the candidates and party members on those 5 seats for working so hard. We accept the mandate of the people of Bihar. I also want to thank CM Nitish Kumar. We will work for the welfare of Seemanchal.”

Supporters of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar erupted in celebration outside the JD(U) office in Patna as early trends cemented a massive NDA lead. JD(U) leader Chotu Singh declared, “We congratulate Nitish Kumar. The people of Bihar have made him victorious. We will celebrate Holi and Diwali here!” The NDA has comfortably crossed the majority mark, leading on 185 seats (JD(U) 76, BJP 83, LJP(RV) 22, HAMS 4).

Bihar Deputy CM and BJP candidate from Lakhisarai, Vijay Kumar Sinha, said he will offer prayers to Jagadmata and Jagadpita before the election results. He emphasized that through these prayers, he seeks to honor and accept the mandate of the “Janta Malik,” respecting the will of the people.

A day before vote counting, INDIA bloc leaders led by Tejashwi Yadav expressed concerns of a possible “conspiracy” during the process, allegedly by the ruling NDA. At a press meet in Patna, Yadav, joined by CPI-ML leader Dipankar Bhattacharya and AICC’s Krishna Allavaru, urged the Election Commission to guarantee impartial counting. He also recalled the 2020 polls, claiming the Mahagathbandhan lost due to alleged manipulation by “pliant officials.”

Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram asserted that the Mahagathbandhan will form the government if votes are counted “in a fair manner.” His remarks come ahead of the crucial counting day, as both alliances brace for a tight finish in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections.

Early trends are expected by late morning, clearer projections by the afternoon, and final seat-wise results by evening, depending on counting speed.

Ahead of Bihar’s vote counting, CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya likened the 2025 election to an “obstacle race,” raising concerns about the counting process as another major hurdle.

He said the party’s organisations and workers will maintain strict vigilance at counting centres throughout the day.

Urging the Election Commission to ensure a transparent and fair count, Bhattacharya stressed the need for clean procedures to uphold voters’ trust.

Ahead of vote counting, JJD chief and Mahua candidate Tej Pratap Yadav inspected the strong room at Raj Narain College and said arrangements were satisfactory.

Reacting to RJD leader Sunil Kumar Singh’s “inflammatory” remarks warning officials against manipulating results, Tej Pratap dismissed him as a “faltu aadmi.”

An FIR has been filed against Sunil Singh under multiple BNS, RPA, and IT Act sections for his statement.

Mahagathbandhan’s Deputy CM face and Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahni claimed that the alliance will form the Bihar government with over 200 seats. Urging officials to ensure free and fair elections, he said voters especially youth have backed the bloc for change, employment, and development.

He also accused the NDA of “stealing the mandate” through money power and cited the ₹10,000 given under the MMRY scheme as an example of such practices.

The Election Commission of India will start counting votes for all 243 Bihar assembly seats at 8 am, with early trends expected soon after. Results will be declared through the day, offering a clear picture by evening. Voting took place in two phases on November 6 and 11.

The high-stakes contest is primarily between the NDA led by the BJP and JD(U) and the Mahagathbandhan of the RJD and Congress. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, once seen as a possible kingmaker, is projected to draw a blank according to pollsters.

Although most exit polls favoured a clear NDA victory, one outlier Journo Mirror predicted a Mahagathbandhan win with 130–140 seats, leaving 100–110 for the NDA. Axis My India, while not projecting an MGB victory, suggested a tighter race, estimating 121–141 seats for the NDA and 98–118 for the INDIA bloc.

From Tejashwi Yadav’s stronghold Raghopur to the Yadav-dominated Mahua where Tej Pratap attempts a comeback, several key constituencies are in focus this Bihar election.

Sheohar witnesses a multi-cornered fight as RJD’s Navneet Jha takes on JSP and JD(U) contenders, while Siwan’s Raghunathpur sees a high-voltage contest between RJD’s Osama Shahab backed by Lalu and JD(U)’s Vikas Kumar Singh.

These seats are set to play a crucial role in shaping the 2025 Bihar mandate.

JJD chief Tej Pratap Yadav is confident of defeating RJD’s sitting MLA Mukesh Kumar Raushan in Mahua. Dismissing exit polls, he said the real picture will emerge on November 14, asserting, “I am winning the Mahua seat… We prepare for work, not celebration.”

With an unusually high voter turnout, the Bihar Assembly results could spring surprises as the NDA and Mahagathbandhan battle to secure the majority mark of 122 seats. All eyes are on the counting underway today to see which alliance forms the next government.

The 2025 polls feature several high-profile contenders, including RJD leader and INDIA bloc CM face Tejashwi Yadav from Raghopur, battling Jan Suraaj’s Chanchal Singh. Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary (Tarapur) and Vijay Kumar Sinha (Lakhisarai), and BJP’s Maithili Thakur (Alinagar) are also key candidates.

Tej Pratap Yadav fights from Mahua, while BJP’s Awadhesh Singh is in the fray in Hajipur. In Kishanganj, Congress’s Kamrul Hoda faces BJP’s Sweety Singh. Popular singer Khesari Lal (Shatrughan Kumar) contests from Chapra against BJP’s Chhoti Kumari.

The 2025 assembly polls recorded a historic 66.91% voter turnout, surpassing 2020 figures and marking the highest participation since 1951. Held across two phases on November 6 and 11, the second phase saw a stronger turnout at 68.76%.

Women voted in significantly higher numbers than men in several districts, with female turnout exceeding male turnout by up to 14 percentage points. Patna was the only district where men voted more than women.

On RJD leader Sunil Kumar Singh’s statement, Jan Suraaj spokesperson Vivek Kumar says, “These kinds of statements are not right. The situation in Nepal is completely different; democracy is very strong in Bihar. We request the Election Commission of India to ensure that counting takes place fairly…Action should be taken in case there is any malpractice…”

Indian stock markets may face a small and temporary fall if the Bihar Assembly election results do not match the exit poll predictions that show an advantage for the ruling NDA. This view comes from a strategy note issued by InCred Research. For now, however, the markets continue to trade with confidence, as investors expect the NDA to win based on the exit poll trends.

As the Jan Suraaj Party, headed by former election strategist Prashant Kishor, contests its first Assembly polls, many are watching closely to see whether it can alter Bihar’s political equation or if the state will deliver a more predictable outcome.

In the 2015 Bihar Legislative Assembly election, the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) won, securing a decisive two-thirds majority. The coalition comprised the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)), the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the Indian National Congress (INC). 

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, several exit polls had indicated a close contest tilted in favour of the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan. When the findings of 11 major surveys were averaged, the alliance was projected to secure around 125 seats slightly above the majority figure of 122 in the 243-seat Assembly. The JD(U)-led NDA, meanwhile, was estimated to finish with about 108 seats.

On RJD leader Sunil Kumar Singh’s statement, Bihar Minister Hari Sahni says, “You can understand the ideology of those who have such evil thoughts in their minds just for the sake of politics and to get a position…The election result will make these (RJD) people realise how unfortunate it is to make such a statement….”

RJD founder Lalu Yadav’s Wife- Rabri Devi assumed office as Bihar’s first woman Chief Minister on 25 July 1997, after her husband Lalu Prasad stepped down when an arrest warrant was issued against him in the Fodder Scam case. She continued to lead the state until 2005.

Responding to RJD leader Sunil Singh’s remark that Bihar would witness “Nepal-like protests” if the election results were tampered with, Union Minister and LJP (Ramvilas) chief Chirag Paswan said the statement aimed to create an atmosphere of disorder. He said such remarks showed that the party knew it was losing and was attempting to provoke people. Paswan added that similar comments from Rahul Gandhi indicated the same fear of defeat. He expressed confidence in the patience of Bihar’s people and said no one wanted a return to the “jungle raj” of the 1990s. Paswan claimed that the NDA would win more than 150 seats and form a strong government that would lead Bihar toward change.

Nitish Kumar is the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar in terms of total cumulative tenure. As of 2025, he has served for over 18 years across multiple non-consecutive terms.

Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Numal Momin says, “NDA will achieve a landslide victory in the Bihar elections. It will be a people’s mandate against the false propaganda of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of accusing our Prime Minister, humiliating our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji publicly by Congress leaders and the voters will give a befitting reply to Congress…Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family is involved in corruption activities and people have voted against them…”

After the completion of polling, everyone is now focused on today’s counting. All arrangements for the process have been finalised. Counting will begin at 8 a.m. at all 46 centres. Trends for the results are expected to start coming in within one to one-and-a-half hours of the start of counting. Observers have been deployed for all 243 seats. Each counting hall has 14 tables for EVM vote counting and one additional table for other tasks.

On counting day, the strong room will be opened in the presence of candidates, election agents, and central observers, with video recording of the process. After this, counting will begin. Carrying mobile phones inside the counting venue has been banned, and any form of sloganeering or victory rallies has also been strictly prohibited. Tight security arrangements have been put in place at all counting locations.

At present, Bihar’s Chief Minister is Nitish Kumar from the Janata Dal (United). The state does not have a Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP); instead, the BJP functions as a major alliance partner in the government.

In this coalition setup, BJP leaders Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha hold the positions of Deputy Chief Ministers.

VIP chief and Mahagathbandhan’s Deputy CM face Mukesh Sahni appealed to state officials to uphold their constitutional oath and ensure a fair election process. He said large public funds were spent on conducting the polls and that the people, especially the youth, voted for change and employment in Bihar. Sahni claimed the NDA had sensed its weak position, while the Mahagathbandhan expected to secure over 200 seats. He also alleged that the government attempted to influence voters by giving money to women, but added that the state’s mothers and sisters clearly understood that jobs and opportunities were the real need.

In the first phase, the turnout stood at 66.14%.

The second phase recorded a voter turnout of 68.76%, with 74.03% of women and 64.1% of men participating. 

Hours before vote counting for the Bihar elections, CPI (ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya said they expect a fair counting process. He recalled that the experience in 2020 was not positive, as there were allegations of rigging in seats with narrow margins. Despite this, he expressed confidence that Bihar will see a change this time.

Janshakti Janata Dal chief and Mahua candidate Tej Pratap Yadav said he reviewed the strong room and found the arrangements to be satisfactory. He also reacted to RJD leader Sunil Kumar Singh’s remarks, dismissing him as a “useless man” and saying his statements hold no value.

Ahead of the Bihar Assembly election results, an FIR has been registered against RJD MLC Sunil Singh over his provocative comments. The case was lodged in Patna following directions from the Election Commission. Sunil Singh had reportedly said that if the vote counting in Bihar was manipulated, the situation could turn similar to what occurred in Nepal.

The Election Commission has ordered that counting of postal ballots will start first. The counting of votes from EVMs will begin at 8:30 a.m. A senior official said that enough security personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and the Bihar Police have been posted across the state to make sure the vote counting happens peacefully. He added that 106 additional security companies from outside Bihar have also been brought in for duty.

An election official explained that the EVMs and VVPATs used during voting have been properly sealed and kept safely in strong rooms, which are secured with a double lock system.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the successful completion of the Bihar Assembly elections, noting a voter turnout of 67.13 percent. This marks the highest participation recorded in the state since 1951.

Schools in Bihar will stay closed on November 14 because of the ongoing vote counting. The counting of votes will begin from 8 am today. 

Commenting on the ongoing vote counting in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak stated that the NDA is set to form the government with a clear majority.

He said the people of Bihar have not forgotten the “Jungle Raj” under the RJD’s rule, adding that voters in both Bihar and Uttar Pradesh will never forgive the RJD and the Samajwadi Party for the “Gunda Raj” they experienced.

Ahead of the Bihar election results, Congress MP Manoj Kumar said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has “ruined Bihar” during his 20-year rule. He questioned the government’s policies, asking whether employment could be ensured by offering just Rs 10,000. Kumar added that the high voter turnout reflected the people’s desire for change in the state. Expressing confidence in the opposition alliance, he said the Mahagathbandhan is set to form the next government in Bihar, with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav likely to take charge as the Chief Minister.

The Election Commission has removed Lalit Bhushan Ranjan, the returning officer of the Chenari assembly constituency in Bihar, just a day before vote counting on Friday. In an order issued by Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, Ranjan who also serves as the additional collector-cum-additional district magistrate of Rohtas was directed to be immediately relieved from all election-related duties, including the counting process.

The reason for his removal has not been disclosed. The Commission has appointed Zafar Hasan, the district land acquisition officer of Rohtas, as the new returning officer for the Chenari seat.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), vote counting will start at 8:00 am on Friday.

The Commission’s official website will share real-time updates throughout the day, including constituency-wise results and details of leading candidates.

Congress’s Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru expressed confidence that the people of Bihar will support the Mahagathbandhan in the ongoing elections. He said the high voter turnout reflects a strong desire for change, as the current government has failed to deliver on major issues like employment, education, health, and security.

Allavaru added that Bihar’s youth are increasingly frustrated with the BJP-led government and are expected to vote overwhelmingly for the opposition alliance.

He also urged election officials to uphold the dignity of the polls and ensure complete security during the voting process.

As Bihar waits with bated breath, exit polls hint at a comfortable NDA win, though the opposition warns predictions can be tricky. Preparations for vote counting are in full swing across 46 centers in 38 districts, with tight security ensuring a smooth process.

Counting kicks off at 8:00 AM on November 14, and every vote will count in this nail-biting showdown.
