The shooter, identified by law enforcement sources as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, stormed into the 44-story tower at around 6:30 p.m. during rush hour. The building, located in the heart of Manhattan, is home to major firms including Blackstone and the National Football League headquarters.

Midtown Manhattan New York City Shooting Officer Among the Victims

NYPD officer Didarul Islam, a four-year veteran of the force, was among those killed in the attack. Islam, a married father of two with a third child on the way, was remembered as a hero by city officials.

“Our city lost a true protector,” said Mayor Eric Adams at a late evening press conference alongside Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch. “Officer Islam put his life on the line to protect others — his bravery will never be forgotten.”

AR-15 Style Rifle Used in Midtown Manhattan New York City Shooting

Officials confirmed that Tamura was armed with an AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle. According to *The New York Post*, the firearm appeared to be equipped with a 30-round magazine, a detail that highlights the lethal capacity of the weapon used.

The AR-15 is a commonly available firearm in the U.S., often used for sport shooting and home defense.

What His Teachers and Former Classmates Say About Him?

Tamura’s former coach, Walter Roby, said that he was “elusive and agile,” was “quiet,” and was well-mannered.

Roby had coached him, reportedly, at Granada Hills Charter School in Los Angeles.

A former classmate, Caleb Clarke, said one could never associate “violence” with him. Reports say Clarke had been in touch with Tamura through social media.

Police: The Gunman Had Mental Health Issues

The police officials of Las Vegas stated that Tamura was suffering from mental health issues. They said in a press conference that “Mr. Tamura” was a “documented mental health” patient. Reports added that Tamura was a former employee of a casino in Las Vegas and had also worked as a security guard.

Meanwhile, the New York Police Department said Tamura could have been frustrated with his mental health, as a note was found with him with the words CTE written on it. It’s a brain situation that is associated with trauma.

Police: The Man Attacked In The Lobby and Went Till the 33rd Floor

Jessica Tisch, the Commissioner of NYPD, said CCTV footage showed Tamura left his car with a rifle in hand, entered the building, and then started to fire immediately.

Tisch said, “The building security camera footage shows the shooter” as he entered the lobby, before he turned right and immediately opened fire on an “NYPD officer.”

During the devastating shooting at 345 Park Avenue, three NYPD officers were seen urgently evacuating a wounded woman who was bleeding heavily, according to footage captured by witnesses and reviewed by The Post.

The officers grasped the woman firmly by her arms and legs as they hurried her away from the location where shooter Shane Tamura opened fire Monday evening.

The woman, dressed in a yellow outfit, had visible blood stains on her forearm, as shown in the video.

At one point, the officers briefly set her down on the sidewalk to adjust their hold, causing some of the blood to drip onto the pavement.
