In a shocking case of alleged dowry harassment, a 26-year-old software engineer, Ishita Yadav, was found dead at her apartment in Miyapur, Hyderabad’s Cyberabad area, on Wednesday evening. Police said Ishita’s husband, Neeraj Bhansal, discovered her hanging from the ceiling fan in the hall and alerted authorities immediately.
According to the police, Ishita, originally from Bihar, and Neeraj, from Madhya Pradesh, had met through social media in 2020. The couple was in a relationship for nearly five years before tying the knot in Patna on February 20 this year, in the presence of their families. After their marriage, both moved to Hyderabad for work in the software sector.
Ishita’s parents alleged that soon after the marriage, differences arose as Neeraj allegedly started pressuring Ishita for additional dowry. Reports suggest he also demanded that her family invest money in a start-up company he had recently launched.
Miyapur police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on the complaint filed by Ishita’s parents and have taken Neeraj into custody. The body has been shifted to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination, and the police are currently conducting a detailed investigation.
This tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns over dowry-related harassment and domestic abuse in urban India, especially among young professionals. Cyberabad police have assured strict action, and the case is under further inquiry.
