India claimed their ninth Asia Cup title after defeating Pakistan by five wickets in the T20 Asia Cup 2025 final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
Batting first, Pakistan posted 146 in 19.1 overs, thanks to Sahibzada Farhan’s solid 57 and Fakhar Zaman’s 46. At one stage, Pakistan looked set for a big score, but Kuldeep Yadav’s brilliant spell turned the game. The left-arm spinner picked up 4 wickets for 30 runs, triggering a collapse where Pakistan lost 9 wickets for just 33 runs.
India’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets. However, young batter Tilak Varma played the innings of his life, scoring 69 off 48 balls to anchor the innings. Useful contributions from Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube steadied the chase, before India crossed the finish line at 150/5 with two balls to spare.
With this win, India have now won the Asia Cup nine times, that is in 1984, 1988, 1990-91, 1995, 2010, 2016, 2018, 2023, and 2025. Sri Lanka follow with six titles (1986, 1997, 2004, 2008, 2014, 2022), while Pakistan have lifted the trophy twice (2000, 2012). Bangladesh and Afghanistan are yet to win the tournament.
The Asia Cup, first played in 1984, remains one of the most prestigious cricket tournaments in Asia. Over the years, it has produced unforgettable India-Pakistan encounters, and the 2025 final was no different. The atmosphere in Dubai was electric as both teams fought hard till the last over, but it was India’s composure that sealed the victory.
India’s victory once again showed their dominance in cricket and extended their lead as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
