Having recently earned his UEFA Pro Licence, he is eager to rebuild Morecambe with vigour, which will allow him to do so with pride and desire today.
Morecambe Football Club has recruited as their new manager Ashvir Singh Johal, a ground breaking move in British football. At the tender age of 30 Johal not only happens to be the first Sikh to manage a professional British club, but he is also the youngest head coach in the history of the English football top five leagues.
He joins the club after the Panjab Warriors consortium has undertaken a breathtaking takeover of the club that has rescued the club out of administration and facing expulsion by the National League. A new management immediately got rid of Derek Adams and this marked a new turn of the fortunes of the club.
Johal comes with a lot of experience in youth development to the new position. His coaching career originated in the Leicester City youth system where he gave a cradle to talent as under 7s all the way to the under 18s during a decade. In 2022, he came in as a first team coach to Wigan Athletic under Kolo Tour, and after that relocated to Italy to work with Cesc Fabregas with the youth structure at Como. More recently he was head coach of the B team of Notts County.
In June 2025 Johal became one of the youngest ever to achieve the highest coach qualification in England with his completion of his UEFA Pro Licence.
According to Johal, the building of the club was the main stress point in his official statement: “The first point that we need to do…is to establish the players that we need to make sure that Morecambe Football Club is able to compete in the National League successfully.” He said that he does not just want to survive, but a high energy, proud team that can fully embody the town on and off the field. With a historical appointment and a new-fangled ownership structure, the stewardship of Johal signifies the dawn of a new audacious era at Morecambe a term of rejuvenation, definition, and potential.
