Mark Cuban, the billionaire co-owner of the Dallas Mavericks, recently revealed the crucial role ESPN insider Shams Charania played in bringing Kyrie Irving to Dallas. The blockbuster trade in the 2022-23 season reshaped the Mavericks and pushed them closer to title contention.
Speaking on Semafor’s Mixed Signals podcast, Cuban called Charania “my guy,” emphasizing that his involvement went beyond breaking news. Cuban explained, “Shams was a big help with us getting Kyrie, and for us extending him because he had a great relationship with Kyrie’s agent.” Cuban highlighted how volatile NBA trades can be, recalling near-deals involving stars like Kobe Bryant and Paul Pierce that collapsed last minute.
