ICC ODI Rankings: Indian cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have mysteriously disappeared from the latest ICC ODI batting rankings released on August 20, 2025. Their sudden omission has left fans puzzled, especially given their recent form and key contributions to India’s ODI success.
Just a week ago, Rohit was ranked No. 2 in the world, while Kohli held the No. 4 spot with 736 rating points. In contrast, the updated rankings do not feature either of them, while Pakistan’s Babar Azam has jumped to No. 2, just behind India’s Shubman Gill.
As of now, neither Rohit Sharma nor Virat Kohli has retired from ODIs. The most probable explanation appears to be a glitch or an error in the ICC’s ranking update, as no official communication has indicated otherwise.
Both veterans last played in February 2025 during the ICC Champions Trophy in the UAE. Rohit starred in the final with a match-winning knock that secured India’s first major ICC ODI title in a decade. Kohli, meanwhile, was rock solid in the group stages, anchoring tricky chases against tough sides like New Zealand and Australia at the Dubai International Stadium.
Their performances were widely praised, and neither showed signs of waning form or stepping away from the 50-over format.
The latest rankings now feature only two Indians in the top 10. Shubman Gill at No. 1 with 784 points and Shreyas Iyer at No. 8 with 704. Notable absentees include both Rohit and Kohli, raising questions about the transparency and accuracy of the ranking system.
As cricket fans await an official explanation, the omission remains one of the most talked-about developments in recent cricket updates.
