WWE is preparing to have a serious match with AEW in September and the company is piling up the odds in its next big extravaganza. According to the report, WrestlePalooza will have two main events that are blockbusters to counter the hype created by All Out at AEW.
WWE has also confirmed that it will be running its own competing event on the same day the All out is going to be held at Toronto, September 20, in Indianapolis. The most likely entrant is WrestlePalooza which was one of the most successful pay-per-views in ECW. However, the internal audience still has some opposition towards the branding.
In addition to the name, WWE can make a major development with the new ESPN deal. Though the streaming deal is set to commence in 2026, talks are in progress as to whether WrestlePalooza would be one of the initials to be aired on the streaming network platform further entrenching WWE on mainstream platform.
The WrestlePalooza card is being stacked with two major matches as WWE does not want it to go up against AEW without any major matches, according to PWInsider Mike Johnson. The much anticipated Brock Lesnar vs John Cena match, which had long been speculated to be their last match, is said to be on the card.
Along with that, an Undisputed WWE Championship bout is being planned between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. According to the report by Johnson, WWE is finding this title match as the main event of WrestlePalooza but the nostalgia is being cut by the present storyline.
Cody Rhodes has just become the WWE champion in an ugly street fight against Cena at SummerSlam. He was however ended short of his reign after McIntyre ambushed him on SmackDown. This assault was added to the plot to explain why Rhodes was away filming the then upcoming reboot of Street Fighter.
Rhodes will star as Guile in the film, another inroad into Hollywood for the current champion. He also featured in a cameo appearance in the remake of the naked gun where he played the role of a bartender. Amazingly, another WWE superstar is also part of the Street Fighter project, namely Roman Reigns.
WrestlePalooza is a turning point to Drew McIntyre. It will be his first WWE Title opportunity since he lost the title to Cena at WrestleMania. The addition of Rhodes gives the card some new heft, and provides fans with another high stakes matchup in addition to the main event of Lesnar and Cena.
In the interim, Cena has a match with Logan Paul scheduled at Clash in Paris, and Rhodes and McIntyre have yet to be on that card. Their WrestlePalooza clash is being billed as one of the most anticipated title defenses of the year and with September set to be a hot battle between the two.
