Palestinian militant group Hamas has reportedly accepted a ceasefire plan as Israel continues its offensive in Gaza. According to an AFP report, the proposal was accepted “without any amendments.”
According to Palestinian officials who spoke to AFP, the agreement includes a 60-day truce. During this period, Hamas is expected to release at least 10 Israeli hostages who are alive, along with the return of several bodies.
Israel has not yet issued a formal response to the proposal. Palestinian officials told AFP that mediators are likely to announce the agreement officially and set a date for renewed truce negotiations.

An Islamic Jihad official told AFP that “the remaining captives would be released in a second phase,” with further talks planned to work toward a wider settlement. The official added that “all factions are supportive” of the ceasefire plan, which was put forward by Egypt and Qatar.
In the wake of the news, US President Donald Trump expressed a hardline stance on the issue. Writing on Truth Social, he said, “we will only see the return of the remaining hostages when Hamas is confronted and destroyed!!! The sooner this takes place, the better the chances of success will be.”
Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that Israel would only accept a deal that ensures the release of all hostages under its own terms for ending the war.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have stated that of the 251 hostages abducted during the Hamas attack in October 2023, 49 remain in Gaza. Among them, 27 are believed to be dead.
