Nepal Communal Clash: Tension exploded in Sabgadha village, Rautahat district, Nepal, after a fight broke out between Hindu and Muslim communities over wedding music near a mosque.

It all started late Thursday night, February 19, 2026. A Hindu wedding procession, blasting DJ music, passed close to a mosque just as Muslims were gathered for evening prayers.

The noise sparked anger. Some people from the mosque came outside and demanded that the music stop. Words got heated, and pretty soon, things spun out of control.

Some members of the Muslim community attacked the wedding’s DJ team, and from there, the whole area felt on edge.

Things didn’t cool down overnight. By Friday morning, February 20, the dispute flared up again. This time, it wasn’t just shouting. People from both sides started throwing stones and bricks. Chaos swept through the village, and fear settled in fast.

Police and security forces rushed in. They sent over 250 officers, including Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the Nepali Army.

The police fired dozens of tear gas shells to break up the fighting. Senior officers, including Nepal Police Superintendent Sitaram Rijal and Armed Police Force Superintendent Ramhari Adhikari, took charge of the scene.

Rautahat’s Chief District Officer, Dinesh Sagar Bhusal, called the whole thing “unfortunate” and said it threatened the area’s social harmony.

He insisted the authorities had things under control and were working to get both sides talking. Bhusal said the goal was to calm things down and restore normalcy through direct dialogue.

Local officials are urging everyone to keep the peace as their investigation continues. As of Friday afternoon, security forces were still patrolling the area. Things stayed tense, but for now, the violence had stopped.
