The first look of Gulshan Devaiah in Kantara: Chapter 1 doesn’t just introduce a character, it tells a story.

Gulshan Devaiah’s Powerful Debut as Kulashekara in Kantara: A Sacred Return to Kannada Roots

He sits there draped in heavy gold jewellery, a towering crown on his head, and a throne that feels ancient, weighty, earned. He’s not trying to be loud. He doesn’t need to be.

His eyes say more than any dialogue could,  intense, calm, with a kind of fire that doesn’t feel angry but sacred, like it’s been burning quietly for centuries. His long, messy hair, the stillness in his posture, the silence in the poster, it all adds up. It is not asking for anything, it is earning it. And that’s exactly the kind of energy Kantara fans were hoping for.

But this isn’t just about a new character. For Gulshan, this is personal. It’s his first Kannada film, his return to the language, the land, and the roots he grew up with. Born into a Kodava family in Bengaluru, he’s always been from here. But for most of his career, the screen never let him speak in his own tongue. Now he does, and not on the sidelines, but right at the centre, as a legendary figure no one’s going to forget.

Gulshan Devaiah: Choosing Complex Roles from Hunterrr to Dahaad

Gulshan’s journey has never followed the usual script. He’s never been the guy chasing easy roles or formula hits. From the raw chaos of Hunterrr, to the quiet intensity of Dahaad, and the haunting duality in Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, he’s always picked characters that are messy, layered, real. He doesn’t just act,  he brings ideas, contradictions, and full-blown humanity to life.

Gulshan Devaiah perfectly at home in Rishab Shetty’s real and mythic world of Kantara

So casting him in Kantara? That’s more than clever. It’s poetic. Rishab Shetty’s world thrives where realism bleed into each other, it feels equal level earthy and equal level human. That’s exactly where Gulshan fits,  not as a visitor, but as someone who belongs there.

With him stepping into Kulashekara’s royal sandals, this isn’t just another chapter in the Kantara universe. It already feels like something that’ll stay with us.
