All educational institutions in Jammu will remain closed today, August 18, 2025, according to the orders of the Jammu and Kashmir government on 17th August, 2025, Sunday. The J&K government had ordered the closure of all educational institutions due to the harsh weather conditions according to the officials. 68 people have lost their lives and 122 suffered injuries due to the three cloudbursts-in the Chisoti village of the Kishtwar district and Jodh Ghati and Janglote areas of the Kathua district. These cloudbursts have happened during the past four days, . Director, School Education said in an order here, “In view of the inclement and bad weather conditions, it is hereby ordered that all government as well as private schools of Jammu Division shall remain closed for tomorrow, i.e., 18.8.2025,” as reported in the PTI.
The rescue operations are underway to save the stranded people in the Chisoti village of the Kishtwar district. Indian Army, National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF), police and local administration are engaged in a search and rescue operation in flash flood-hit Chisoti village in J&K’s Kishtwar district. According to J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, 61 people were killed in the incident and 116 others were rescued. A total of 75 people were admitted in the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital. The condition of four patients continues to be “critical”, as reported in the ANI.
Many victims of the Kishtwar flash floods who lost their lives were having lunch in the langar when the area was struck by the cloudburst between noon and 1 PM. An official said that two CISF personnel were also amongst the victims. The 43-day Shri Machail Mata Yatra, which had started on July 25 and was to continue till September 5, has been suspended.
