Six Killed In Massive Stampede In Mansa Devi Temple In Haridwar, CM Announces Ex Gratia Of Rs 2 Lakh

A tragic stampede at the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar claimed the lives of six people after a large crowd gathered at the site. Several others sustained injuries during the incident, which occurred amid a heavy rush of devotees. Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey confirmed the casualties and informed ANI that he is heading to the spot. He stated, “A detailed report of the incident is awaited.”

Authorities have launched a rescue and relief operation while efforts continue to manage the crowd and identify the injured.

Following a stampede at the Mansa Devi temple, the injured are currently being taken to the hospital for treatment. 

Reacting to the stampede at Haridwar’s Mansa Devi Temple, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and Congress leader Harish Rawat said, “The incident at Mansa Devi Temple is deeply saddening and a major setback. It is also a matter of serious concern for Uttarakhand. This is a sacred place where we invite devotees, so a professional system should be in place to manage the crowd, as we are aware of the high footfall. There must be an effective communication system. I fail to understand how such incidents occur at temples. This is manageable. It’s alarming because it happened despite existing arrangements. The government and the Chief Minister must ensure such incidents do not recur.”

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami meets those injured in Haridwar’s Mansa Devi temple stampede. He also announced ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the kins of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. 

On the brutal stampede, DM Mayur Dixit says, “We found through photos and videos that someone spread the rumour of electric wire breaking, while looking at the injured or the dead, we did not get any such indication… We will investigate who spread the rumour that caused the stampede and a magisterial inquiry will be set up investigating cameras and other means… The death of 6 people has been confirmed…”
