A routine internal exam at Dr Malakareddy Homeopathic College in Kalaburagi, Karnataka. The shocking incident took place on Friday when a student allegedly attacked an invigilator after being caught cheating.
The incident was captured on the CCTV cameras installed inside the examination hall. The video has since been shared widely on social media which has raised questions about exam discipline and safety on campus.
The student at the centre of the incident has been identified as Shahbaz, who is originally from Kerala. He was taking an internal exam in Homeopathic Materia Medica when he was allegedly spotted using a mobile phone to copy answers which is a clear violation of exam rules. Assistant Professor Shivaraj Kumar, who was on duty as an invigilator, reportedly noticed Shahbaz’s actions and took immediate action.
According to college sources, Professor Shivaraj first questioned Shahbaz about the mobile phone. As soon as the professor saw it he confiscated Shahbaz’s answer sheet and asked him to leave the examination hall for attempting to cheat.
The clip from the CCTV footage shows the professor and the student engaged in a heated verbal exchange. Shahbaz appeared to step toward the hall exit, however soon turned back and suddenly charged at the professor. He is then seen striking the invigilator with several punches inside the classroom before other students and staff rushed in to restrain him. Some students stood up from their seats in shock as the confrontation unfolded.
College officials reacted quickly after the incident. Shahbaz’s parents were informed immediately, and the college administration decided that he will not be allowed to appear in future examinations at the institution. “We have informed his family and taken steps to ensure he won’t sit for further tests,” a college representative said. However, as of now, no formal police complaint has been filed by Professor Shivaraj or the college management.
The college has launched an internal inquiry to investigate how the situation escalated and what further action should be taken based on its findings. “We are reviewing the matter seriously and will act according to the inquiry report,” a college official added.
