Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning set the record straight this week after his grandfather, Archie Manning, publicly predicted he would remain at Texas through the 2026 season.

Arch, now the full-time starter for the No. 1-ranked Longhorns, told reporters on Tuesday that the comment caught him off guard. “I don’t know where he got that from,” Arch said. “He texted me to apologize about that. I’m really just taking it day by day right now.”

No NFL Timeline Yet, Just Texas Football

In his first public appearance since SEC Media Days, Arch made it clear he hasn’t mapped out his NFL future. Despite growing speculation around when he’ll declare for the draft, he’s focused on leading Texas into a season opener against No. 3 Ohio State on August 30 a rematch of last season’s playoff semifinal.

Manning steps into a massive spotlight as the heir to football’s most famous family. The former five-star recruit spent the last two seasons behind Quinn Ewers and now enters 2025 as an early Heisman Trophy favorite with multimillion-dollar endorsement deals to his name.

Family Legacy Brings Pressure and Perspective

As the grandson of NFL veteran Archie Manning and nephew to Super Bowl winners Peyton and Eli, Arch Manning is under constant scrutiny. But he doesn’t let it shake him. He explained Tuesday that he remains very close to Archie, despite the confusion over his timeline. “He’s always giving me advice,” Arch said. “He ends every call with ‘get down or get out of bounds.’ Those hits add up. He’s hobbling around these days.”

Eyes on the Season, Not the Draft

For now, Arch isn’t concerned about how long he’ll wear burnt orange. He’s focused on staying healthy, winning games, and proving he can live up to his family name on his own terms.
