Pakistan has now changed their earlier decision to skip their T20 world cup game against India and the government ordered the team headed by Salman Ali Agha, to play the scheduled game as initially scheduled on the 15th of February. Soon after this announcement, a video went viral on the internet purporting that the move was being applauded by Congress MP and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor.

What Is In The AI Generated Video Of Shashi Tharoor?

The video immediately went viral on social media, and it was an eye raiser both to fans of cricket and political pundits. The AI generated video supposedly depicted Tharoor saying ‘I believe that the way that Pakistan played is brilliant. I am not aware of what they would do on the field. Still, their diplomatic action is brilliant. The Indian cricket board had been totally put in the grip. This is a lesson on how good diplomacy can put a weak country in a position of a goliath. Pakistan has achieved it and I would like to congratulate them on the same. It is unthinkable’. It was popularly circulated on X with captions that Tharoor was praising Pakistan because it had taken a bold stand in the running ICC Men’s T20 world cup 2026.

Shashi Tharoor’s Reaction

In response to the viral video, Tharoor explained that it was completely a fake and it was produced with artificial intelligence.

The AI created fake news and not even very good. Not my word, nor my voice, he answered, and overruled the assertions. Reality is that the Congress MP had condemned the initial move by Pakistan to boycott the match citing it as disgraceful and emphasizing on the politicisation of cricket that had been increasing. He emphasized the fact that sport serves as a bridge and not a separation among the nations. Tharoor made these remarks in the context of a previous announcement by Pakistan about X that has said that the team will not go to the field against India which had sparked an uproar in the cricketing and political circles.
