U.S. President Donald Trump extended his congratulations to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift on their engagement, shortly after the couple shared the news on social media. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, the 79-year-old said, “I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great guy. I think she’s a terrific person.”
Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end, has not openly supported Trump. Earlier this year, he called Trump’s presence at the Super Bowl “a great honor,” but stopped short of taking a political stance. In the past, Kelce has shown support for progressive causes such as COVID-19 vaccines and once liked a post backing Kamala Harris. Meanwhile, Trump has had a rocky history with Swift, mocking her after she endorsed Harris and even taunting Kelce following a Super Bowl loss.
Swift and Kelce confirmed their engagement in a joint Instagram post with five photos. Their caption read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” along with a dynamite emoji. While they haven’t shared when or where Kelce proposed, Page Six reported it happened a few weeks ago.
The two first met after Kelce, already a celebrated Super Bowl champion, connected with Swift. Recently, they appeared on Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast to promote Swift’s upcoming album The Life of a Showgirl. During the chat, Swift compared her demanding concerts to Kelce’s long hours on the field, saying they both perform best under pressure. When asked about constant media attention, she joked, “My name can be in the headline, and it’s none of my business.”
Even the NFL joined the buzz, though it briefly made a blunder by tagging the wrong “Swift” on social media.
Their relationship is also highlighted in ESPN’s new documentary The Kingdom, which follows the Chiefs’ push for a third straight Super Bowl. At its premiere in Kansas City, Kelce’s parents, Donna and Ed, praised the couple, with Ed saying, “She’s very good for him. They truly deserve each other.”
From stadiums to concert halls, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romance has become one of today’s most-watched love stories.
