Tesla CEO Elon Musk has decided to slow down his plans to launch a third political party, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. Musk has told close associates that, for now, he wants to focus on running his companies and avoid clashes with powerful Republicans.

Sources also said that Musk is considering supporting US Vice President JD Vance financially if he chooses to run for president in 2028.

America Party: Elon Musk Formed New Political Group

In July, Musk had announced the creation of a new political group called the America Party. He introduced it on his social media platform X, presenting it as an alternative to the two-party system led by Republicans and Democrats. In his post, Musk accused both parties of overspending and corruption, claiming the US had become “a one-party system” serving politicians’ interests instead of the people.

Because Musk was born outside the United States, he cannot run for president himself. He never revealed who would lead the new party. His announcement came after a public fallout with former President Donald Trump. At the time, Musk even held a poll on X asking whether Americans wanted a new party. When the majority voted “yes,” he declared the America Party would be formed to “give you back your freedom.”

From Friends to Foes: Story of Elon Musk and Donald Trump

Despite such claims, third-party candidates have historically struggled in the US. In last year’s presidential election, contenders from the Libertarian, Green, and People’s parties were unable to prevent Trump from winning.

Musk was once a strong Trump supporter. He appeared at campaign rallies and even brought his young son to meet Trump in the Oval Office. He also donated $250 million to Trump’s campaign. After the election, Trump appointed him to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, also known as DOGE, which was tasked with finding ways to cut government spending.

However, Musk later broke with Trump. He stepped down from the administration in May and began openly criticizing the president’s tax and spending policies.
