Australia have been knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2026 after the match between Zimbabwe and Ireland was washed out. Zimbabwe had four points in two matches before this game while Australia just had two in three matches. The wash out handed Zimbabwe one point making it a total of five points.

Australia as well as Ireland could have a maximum of four points.

“Ngarava led the singing. He has made some very good songs for the team as well so he is the headmaster. I will take you back to the sub-regional qualifiers, and I stood up to my troops and said we are in this situation because of ourselves, and only we can clear this mess. As much as we have achieved, it is just a tick in the box and not the whole box,” Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza said after the match.

Zimbabwe vs Australia

Zimbabwe had stunned Australia in their Group stage match. The African side by 23 runs. Riding on Brian Bennett’s 64* off 56 and a late surge from Sikandar Raza who chipped in with 25* off 13, Zimbabwe put up 169/2 in 20 overs.

Later, Blessing Muzarabani and Brad Evans rattled Australia. Muzarabani picked up four wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs. Evans also bagged a three-wicket haul for 23 runs in 3.3 overs.

“I think we never left Earth anyway. We know this is just part of the journey and the goals that we set. Those victories we have had so far will count for nothing if there is a slip-up now,” Raza said earlier.

“It has taken us a long time to get the combinations right. We’ve been on this journey for the last 18 odd months, trying different combinations, and then when we found what we think will help us and suit us in these conditions, we stuck with them for the last nine odd months,” Raza added.

Zimbabwe will now be a part of Group 1 in Super 8 stage along side India, West Indies and South Africa.
