Weather has started playing its part in the Indian Premier League 2026 season, right in the middle of India’s unpredictable spring, a time when heat, rain, and even a slight chill can appear all in a single day. But for cricket fans, there’s one thing they don’t want interfering with the game, rain. Today (April 11, Saturday) in Chennai, the Chennai Super Kings, still searching for their first win of the season, will take on Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. As per the current weather updates, the match is expected to go ahead without any rain interruptions, although the heat remains a major concern.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the temperature at the time of writing is around 33°C. While there is a 66% chance of rain across the city during the day, the cloud pattern above the Chepauk stadium suggests that rainfall is unlikely during match hours.
By around 6:30 PM, the sun will have set, and preparations at the stadium will be underway for the toss scheduled at 7:00 PM IST, with the match set to begin at 7:30 PM IST.
Although the IMD has kept Chennai on alert for possible rain during the day, forecasts from AccuWeather indicate a 0% chance of rain during match time. This means fans can expect a full game without interruptions, even if the humidity and heat continue to test players.
Weather has already made its presence felt this season. Just yesterday, on April 10, the IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati saw the toss delayed by an hour due to rain, reminding everyone how quickly conditions can change.
Coming to Chennai Super Kings, they are currently on the back foot, having suffered three consecutive defeats and sitting at the bottom of the points table. What has hurt even more is the manner of those losses.
In their opening match against Rajasthan Royals, CSK suffered a batting collapse, with the top order crumbling to 19/3 in just 3.1 overs. They were eventually bowled out for 127 and lost the match by 8 wickets.
In the second game against Punjab Kings, things looked better as they posted a strong 209/5, powered by a brilliant 73 from Ayush Mhatre. But the bowlers couldn’t defend the total, and CSK ended up losing by 5 wickets.
Their most recent outing was even more difficult, as they suffered a heavy 43-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. RCB piled on 250/3, scoring a massive 99 runs in the final five overs. Tim David starred with a blistering 70* off 25 balls. In response, CSK’s chase never got going after losing their top three batters inside the first three overs.
Now, they face a confident Delhi Capitals side that currently sits fourth on the points table after a strong start. Delhi won their opening two matches against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians, both by six wickets, with Sameer Rizvi playing a key role in both victories. Their only defeat came in a heartbreaking one-run loss against Gujarat Titans.
The match will start at 7:30 PM IST at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
