India, in another gesture of friendship, will be supplying Sri Lanka with 65,000 metric tons of Urea amid the worst economic crisis in the island nation. Even though India currently has an embargo on urea exports in place, it will make an exemption for Sri Lanka.
As per a news report by Daily Mirror, Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India, Milinda Moragoda, held a meeting with the Secretary of the Department of Fertilizers of India, Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi, where they discussed ways to ensure an uninterrupted supply of chemical fertilizers to Sri Lanka under the existing line of credit by India.
The Sri Lankan High Commission said in a statement, “High Commissioner Milinda Moragoda met with the Secretary to the Department of Fertilizers of India Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi and thanked him for India’s decision to supply 65,000 MT of urea required for the current Yala cultivation season in Sri Lanka.”
