Renowned filmmaker Rohit Shetty, currently filming the highly anticipated Golmaal 5 in Mumbai, has found himself at the center of a legal controversy. The director used security measures that exceeded legal boundaries because he worked with actors who required special protection during their high-security event.

Shetty requested official state protection after receiving a death threat from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang earlier this year. The director used his private SUVs to create vehicles that looked like official law enforcement cars after the Mumbai Police denied his request for additional security, which led to an immediate investigation.

Unauthorized Customizations

The main legal complaint arises from unauthorized usage of “Police” stickers together with emergency flashers on private land. Shetty created his “Cop Universe,” which exists as a movie franchise, but his street presentation of Mumbai street aesthetic elements constitutes a Motor Vehicles Act violation.

The director has installed police-style sirens together with signage on his two personal SUVs, which enables him to avoid compliance with required identification protocols.

Law enforcement officials state that these markings are dedicated to active-duty officers because they need to stop impersonation while maintaining public safety so any unauthorized use becomes a criminal offense.

Motor Vehicle Violations

Shetty will receive penalties according to Section 177 because he made specific changes to his vehicles. The law establishes a complete prohibition that prevents civilians from using red or blue beacons together with official department markings on their private vehicles.

Legal experts explain that despite genuine safety concerns about imprisoned gangsters, citizens cannot use their personal security worries to falsely claim police officer status. The incident demonstrates that all public figures, even those with police movie connections, must follow transport department rules that apply to their work.
