Kriti Sanon’s Bold Take On Bollywood’s Pay Disparity: Why Female-Led Films Aren’t Given Bigger Budgets

Bollywood Actress Kriti Sanon has expressed against the vast gender disparity that an industry so large is in a position to perpetrate and the failure to attempt to contend in films that focus on the ladies. In an interview made recently, Sanon admitted that she is hopeful that one day the budget of any movie will not be dependent on the gender of the protagonist of the movie, but there is still a long way to go. She slaughtered on the attitude held within the industry where even when a company produces a movie that is headed by a woman, they will not have the same scale on it as a movie that is run by a man.

The actress wondered why her male costars who have not produced a blockbuster in recent years are still earning a 10-fold rate than their female costars are. This has created a cycle of viciousness as films led by women will not be accorded time to flourish on a bigger level, thus reinforcing that fact that they would not repay their money back.

Salary is not the only concern that Kriti Sanon comes into most of the business anxieties of Bollywood film entrepreneurs. She gave an explanation that the reasoning behind the pay gap normally relates to satellite and digital rights that tend to be sold before the release of the film. Male-oriented flicks have always fetched more on such sites, ensuring the producers a payoff.

Such a financial model leaves the producers feeling afraid to risk the same money on a film headlined by a woman as it would not work as well. This unwillingness to invest in the projects headed by females is a steppingstone on the way to real gender pay parity and freedom of the actresses.

But Kriti Sanon is fine by the modest and gradual change. She believes that the recent triumph of such movies as her Crew (which collected more than 157 crores at the box office in all parts of the world with an exclusively female starring block) as well as Gangubai Kathiawadi acted by Alia Bhatt show that filmed portraits of women also have all the opportunities to become a critical and commercial breakthrough. The movies demonstrate that the gender of the main hero is not a determinant in story movies.

Hoping that these successes will make more producers be not afraid to take a chance on a great script than a traditional way of counting money and a male prejudice. Such a shift in mindset will help achieve a more just and diverse cinematic environment in the future.
