On Tuesday, a student from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur was discovered dead in his residence hall room. Around 8:30 pm, a resident of Hall 8 called the security department of the university to report that the Ph.D. student Prasant Singh’s room was locked from the inside and unresponsive to knocks.
According to a statement from the institute, when authorities forcibly opened the door, they found Prasant Singh hanging from the ceiling with the use of a bedsheet.

He was transported to the institute’s health centre, where the on-call doctor gave the fatal verdict. The incident was reported to Singh’s family members and the city police in the interim.

“When the institute’s administrators forcibly opened the door, they discovered Prasant Singh hanging from the ceiling with the help of a bedsheet,” the institute said in a statement.
