Prateek Yadav, the brother of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, has announced his decision to divorce his wife, Aparna Yadav. The businessman shared the news on Instagram, citing personal and familial reasons behind the move.
In a detailed Instagram post, Prateek Yadav wrote, “A selfish woman has ruined my family. She has affected my mental state. I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She has destroyed my family relationships. Her only goal is to become famous and influential. Currently, my mental state is very poor, and she doesn’t care, because she only worries about herself. I have never seen such a bad soul, and it was my misfortune that I married her.”
Prateek Yadav is the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife, Sadhna Gupta, making him the half-brother of SP president Akhilesh Yadav. Unlike his politically active family members, Prateek has largely kept a distance from politics, focusing instead on his business ventures.
In January 2015, he launched his gymnasium, Iron Core Fit, located in Lucknow’s upscale Gomti Nagar area.
Aparna Yadav, the daughter of journalist Arvind Singh Bisht and a Lucknow Municipal Corporation officer, has pursued both politics and social work. She completed her schooling at Loreto Convent School, Lucknow, and earned a Master’s degree in International Relations and Politics from Manchester University, UK.
Aparna and Prateek got engaged in 2010 and married in December 2011.
Politically, Aparna Yadav made her debut in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Contesting from the Lucknow Cantonment constituency on an SP ticket, she lost to BJP candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi by a margin of 33,796 votes.
She then joined the BJP on the eve of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, breaking ranks with her political family.
Apart from politics, Aparna Yadav is a trained classical singer, having studied music for nine years at Bhatkhande Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Lucknow. She also actively engages in social causes, running an organisation focused on women’s rights and empowerment.
