Rekha Sharma, the chairperson of the National Commission for Women, announced on Tuesday that the NCW had taken note of the gang-rape case in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills, alleging that underage girls are being targeted.
Sharma, while speaking about two minor rape cases in Hyderabad, said, “We took cognizance in the first case where minor was gang-raped in a car by children of political people. The matter is serious because minor girls are being targeted.” She further added that a second case has come to her notice today, and the NCW would take cognizance of the same.
In the span of a week, five rape occurrences involving kids were recorded in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad police have charged Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Raghunandan Rao with exposing the identify of the 17-year-old victim in the Jubilee Hills gang rape case.
For allegedly distributing the recordings and images of the child victim, Rao has been charged under section 228A of the Indian Penal Code (disclosure of the victim’s identify).
On May 28, a 17-year-old girl was reportedly gang-raped while going home from a party in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills neighbourhood. Following the event, the father of the underage girl filed a police report.
Following the complaint, a case was filed under sections 354 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 9 read with 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act against the five accused.
The girl was allegedly seen standing with the suspected assailants outside the tavern where she had met them, according to security footage that has gone viral on social media. The lads had volunteered to drop her off to her house. Instead, she was molested in a public parking garage. Her assailants alternated rapping her as others kept guard outside the vehicle.
