Lahore Qalandars vs Islamabad United: After dishing out an incredible bowling performance, Islamabad United were as clinical as they could be in a 101-run chase, inflicting a 9-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars in the first PSL double header on Thursday (April 9). Chris Green was adjudged the ‘player of the match’ award for his three wickets in his four-over spell against Lahore Qalandars.
Green was well supported by captain Shadab Khan, who gave away 18 runs in his two-over spell as he removed Lahore’s Rubin Hermann and Asif Ali to dent their batting line-up. In other contributions, Shadab pulled off a blinder of a catch to get rid of Abdullah Shafique. Shadab, who was fielding at mid-off, flew to his right to take the catch. See the video here:
The dismissal happened during the third delivery of the fifth over. The batter came down the track hit but missed the line of the ball entirely. He was forced to commit to the wicket as the delivery ultimately took the lower part of the bat.
Shadab Khan said, “Yes, it was a complete performance. Everyone contributed, especially the bowling unit. The way Gleeson started and the rest of the bowlers followed up was excellent. Our fielding was really good. I had a bit of time to take that catch while diving to my right. These kinds of efforts lift the team, and that moment helped raise the energy. He (Devon Conway) is a proven player who showed his class. You don’t judge such players on a couple of innings. He played really well on a double-paced pitch, and that was important for us.
Shaheen Afridi (Lahore Qalandars Captain): “(A day to forget?) Yes absolutely. We have to forget today. Credit goes to the opposition. They bowled and fielded well. Shadab in particular, with that catch. We were not surprised by the bounce as it was an Australian wicket. Also, they bowled in really good areas. I think once Fakhar comes back, the team balance will get better. To add to his absence, even Emon was missing today. Well, it is part of the sport, and we have to deal with it, and the tournament is still in its early stages.”
Islamabad United 104 for 1 (Conway 59*, Faiq 34*, Shaheen 1-22) beat Lahore Qalandars 100 all out (Raza 25, Green 3-19, Imad 2-13, Gleeson 2-13) by nine wickets
