Rohini Kalam, Asian Games Jiu Jitsu Representative, Found Dead At Home

Rohini Kalam, a 35 year old international jiu jitsu athlete and coach, whose death was reported on Sunday, was found dead in her house in Dewas, and police preliminary investigation points to suicide as a possible cause for the death. Her younger sister who was on a visit found her in the room and shouted for help. The hospital later pronounced her dead on arrival. No suicide note was found.

Rohini’s family members mentioned that she was experiencing great pressure at her job. She had just returned home the day before and was talking to her sister about being stressed out because of the school principal. Five months back, she had surgery for a tumor in her abdomen, but nothing indicated that she was under any job related pressure and her health condition was good.

Roshni, her sister to the investigators, declared that Rohini was employed as a martial arts instructor at a private educational institution in Ashta and that she had been experiencing stress related to her job. Rohini had gone back home the previous day, Saturday, and on the following morning, Sunday morning, she had her tea and breakfast just like every day, talked on the phone for a little while, then locked her door from the inside before the unfortunate incident occurred. Her father told that Rohini was the firstborn of five children and had turned down marriage offers because she aspired to be an IPS officer. Besides, the family mentioned that Rohini had been previously sick since the surgery she had undergone for a stomach lump five months ago. They also mentioned that the principal at her school, who got engaged to her, was harassing her.
