Since the time of its implementation, Aadhaar has already played a vital role in the identification of Indians. However, there is a development that the Non-Resident Indians (NRI) will now be able to avail themselves of Aadhaar cards as issuing them will help simplify processes such as extended stays, banking, rentals, government transactions, etc.

After amendments to the Aadhaar Act in July 2019, NRIs holding Indian passports are now eligible to acquire Aadhaar cards upon their arrival in India, removing the previous requirement of residing in the country for 182 days.

Additionally, recent revisions made by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) have introduced new enrollment forms designed specifically for NRIs, simplifying the application process.

These updated forms cater separately to residents and NRIs, categorized by age groups. They include enrollment forms for adults, children, and foreign nationals, ensuring a clear and efficient application process.

The UIDAI’s introduction of revised forms tailored for NRIs seeking Aadhaar cards in India aims to streamline both the enrollment and update procedures, offering clarity and efficiency for NRIs.

Here are the eligibility criteria:

  • NRI’s irrespective of young or adult can apply for an Aadhaar card from any nearest Kendra.
  • The docs required a valid Indian passport, birth certificate for those who are born after Oct 1, 2023, and identity proof with the address.
