The deadly Turkey mass shooting incident in the southern city of Mersin on Monday resulted in four deaths and eight injuries when a shooter opened fire in different places, as reported by local media sources to AFP news agency. The shooting was said to have started in a restaurant in the Tarsus district where customers and employees fell prey to the sudden attack of the killer who opened fire in the restaurant. Four people lost their lives in the Turkey mass shooting in the restaurant, while several others were injured. However, the shooting spread to different parts of the city as the gunman continued his shooting spree before escaping from the scene.
According to Turkish news agencies DHA and IHA, the remaining two victims of the Turkey mass shooting were killed at separate locations during the attack spree. Officials said the suspect escaped in a vehicle after carrying out the shootings.
Police immediately launched a massive search operation across the region to track down the gunman. Local media reports said helicopters were also deployed as part of the manhunt. Security forces sealed several roads and intensified checks in nearby areas as the Turkey mass shooting investigation continued. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the attacker or confirmed whether more than one person may have been involved in the shootings.
Reports say that eight people injured in the Turkey mass shooting were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials have not yet shared details about the condition of the injured victims or the seriousness of their wounds. Police teams and forensic experts continued examining the restaurant and other locations linked to the attack late into the evening. Local authorities also confirmed that the victims have not yet been publicly identified.
According to Turkish authorities, investigations are being conducted to find out why there was a mass shooting in Turkey. At the moment, no organization or person has taken responsibility for the crime. The authorities have not been able to confirm whether the victims were targeted or not.
In Turkey, there have been many instances of mass shootings in the past few years, some being caused due to personal differences, organized crimes, or extreme acts of terrorism. One such tragic event occurred in 2017 when a shooting took place at the Reina nightclub located in Istanbul. This event resulted in the death of many people on New Year’s Eve.
