Argentina Defence Minister Is On His Four-Day Visit To India

Argentine defence minister Jorge Taiana is on his four-day official visit to India. He will hold bilateral discussion with his counterpart Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.
Argentina Defence Minister Jorge Taiana is in New Delhi for his four-day official. He laid a wreath and paid tribute to Martyrs at the National War Memorial National Capital on Tuesday. Jorge Liana arrived in India on Monday 17 July.
He is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with his counterpart Rajnath Singh to further consolidate the defense cooperation between the two countries. The delegation-level meeting will be co-chaired by both ministers, said an official. He is also expected to visit Bengaluru during his visit.
The India-Argentina ties reached the level of strategic Partnership during the Argentine President’s state visit to India in February 2019.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had his first bilateral meeting with Argentina President Alberto Fernandez on 24th June 2022 on the sideline of the G7 Summit in Munich, Germany. Where both leaders discussed ways to improve cultural and commercial cooperation between both countries. The relationship between the two countries on various fronts have evolved significantly over the period.
According to the officials Argentina has shown a deep interest in India’s Tejas fighter aircraft, and now wants a formal proposal from India over its proposed procurement of 16 Tejas fighters.
Last month Indian ambassador to Argentina Dinesh Bhatia, along with the delegation of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) met Jorge Taiana and the chief of Argentine Air Force, Brigadier General Xavier Isaac discussed Tejas Combat Aircrafts and other aircraft.
EAM Jaishankar also admitted to Argentina’s interest in Tejas Fighter aircraft and noted this proposal will boost the bilateral relationship between both countries.
Both countries have also agreed on collaboration in the joint production of aircraft and defense products and also for the exchange of visits of defense officials between both the countries.
Tejas is an Indian single-engine, delta wing, light-role fighter aircraft manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) an Indian aerospace and defense company.
