Is Market Open Today: The stock market holiday on March 19, 2026, has left many investors wondering whether trading will take place today. With Gudi Pawa being observed across several parts of India, there is often confusion about the functioning of key exchanges like NSE and BSE.
Maharashtra is all set to celebrate Gudi Pawa on March 19, marking the beginning of the new year for Marathi and Konkani Hindus. The vibrant spring festival is observed every year with great enthusiasm and grandeur across Maharashtra and Goa.
According to the NSE holiday calendar, Gudi Padwa is not a trading holiday, meaning the stock market will remain open and investors can trade as usual. However the day has been designated as a settlement holiday.
Which means, stocks bought on Wednesday, March 18, cannot be sold on Thursday, March 19, and will instead be settled on Friday, March 20.
Similarly, proceeds from shares sold on March 18 will be credited on March 20. If anyone made a fund withdrawal request after 5:30 pm on March 18, it will also be processed by March 20.
If someone purchases stocks under the MTF segment on March 18, it will not reflect in the permanent holding and can not be sold on March 19. Additionally credits from intraday profits, options premiums, and mark-to-market gains will only be reflected in accounts by Friday, March 20.
