Prashant Tamang Dies at 43: Singer and actor Prashant Tamang passed away on Sunday at the age of 43 at his residence in New Delhi. The Indian Idol Season 3 winner was pronounced dead at a hospital in Dwarka, New Delhi, on January 11, 2026. Fans and members of the music and film fraternity have begun pouring in tribute to hear the demise of the singer.
Prashant Tamang, Nepali singer and actor, died due to cardiac arrest, sources said. The singer rose to prominence after winning the reality TV show Indian Idol in 2007, a victory that marked the beginning of his successful music and acting career.
According to reports, Prashant Tamang had returned to New Delhi after performing live in Arunachal Pradesh. He was taken to a hospital in Dwarka on the morning of January 11, 2026, where doctors declared him dead at around 9:00 am. Tributes have since poured in from fans and members of the music and entertainment industry, mourning the loss of the popular singer.
Prashant Tamang was an Indian singer and actor of Nepali origin who rose to national fame as the winner of Indian Idol Season 3. He was a cultural icon for the Gorakha Community and the first person of Gorkhali descent to win a major Indian reality show.
Before his music career, Tamang served as a constable in the Kolkata Police and sang for the police orchestra. His victory in Indian Idol became a rallying point for Gorkha and Nepali-speaking audiences across India and overseas.
Following Indian Idol Season 3 win, Prashant Tamangreleased his debut album, Dhanyavad (2007). His popular songs include Bir Gorkhali, Asare Mahinama, and Man Sainli. He made his acting debut in the 2019 Nepali blockbuster Gorkha Paltan. Other notable films include Pardeshi (2015) and Pardeshi 2 (2023).
He recently earned international recognition for his portrayal of sniper Daniel Acho in the second season of the Amazon Prime series Paatal Lok, released in 2025. He has also wrapped up filming for the upcoming film Battle of Galwan, in which he stars alongside Salman Khan.
