ios 26.5 new features
US based tech giant Apple has rolled out iOS 26.5 which has introduced three key enhancements to iPhone. The new software update also includes a colorful new wallpaper option and much more. The company stated, “This update introduces for end-to-end encrypted RCS (beta) messaging and a downloadable Pride Luminance wallpaper, along with enhancements, bug fixes, and security updates for your iPhone.”
End-to-end encrypted RCS messaging (beta) in Messages is available with supported carriers, and it will roll out over time.
Pride Luminance wallpaper that dynamically refracts a spectrum of colours is available for download.
Suggested Places in Maps display recommendations based on what’s trending nearby and your recent search.
While the three highlights are getting most of the attention, iOS 26.5 also brings a number of other useful changes that iPhone users will notice over time.
One of the bigger additions is support for a new 12-month commitment plan with monthly payments for App Store subscriptions. This option was already available in other countries through iOS 26.4, but users in the United States will need iOS 26.5 to access it.
The update also brings improvements to the Reminders app, making it work better for everyday use. On top of that, Apple accessories like the Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad can now connect automatically over Bluetooth once they are plugged in via USB-C. This is a small but handy change for anyone who regularly switches between devices.
There is one change coming to Apple Maps that has caught a lot of attention. Later this summer, Maps will begin showing ads in search results for users in the United States and Canada. Apple says the approach will focus on user privacy, but this will mark the first time ads appear directly inside the Maps app.
For iPhone users in the European Union, iOS 26.5 brings even more changes. One of them is Live Activity forwarding, which allows third-party accessories to display live updates from apps. This is a feature that was required under EU rules.
In Brazil, the update appears to be laying the groundwork for sideloading, which means users may soon be able to install apps from outside the App Store. This has been a growing demand in several countries where regulators have pushed Apple to open up its platform.
iOS 26.5 may feel like a mid-cycle update, but it is setting the stage for something much bigger. The company is likely to reveal iOS 27 which is the next major software update for iPhone, at its annual developer conference WWDC 2026. The event is scheduled to begin on 8th June, and the first developer beta of iOS 27 is likely to reveild the same day.
For now, iOS 26.5 is available to download on all supported iPhones. Users can go to Settings, then General, and then Software Update to get the latest version on their device.
