Benjamin Netanyahu Blames Gaza Hospital Explosion to Islamic Jihad's Failed Rocket Launch

Amidst the criticism, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has doubled down on Israel’s determination to “break” Hamas.

After a devastating explosion tore through the heart of Gaza City, leaving the Al-Ahli al-Arabi Hospital in ruins and claiming the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians, Israel has begun to receive condemnations and criticism from various world leaders for alleged war crimes targeting civilian lives. Reacting to these verbal attacks, the Israeli prime minister has put the responsibility for the hospital explosion on Hamas.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to the incident by asserting that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) did not target the hospital, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. “An analysis of IDF operational systems indicates that a barrage of rockets was fired by terrorists in Gaza, passing in close proximity to the Al Ahli hospital in Gaza at the time it was hit,” Netanyahu posted on a popular social media platform X.

In a pointed accusation, Netanyahu singled out the Islamic Jihad group as the responsible party, citing multiple intelligence sources. “Intelligence from multiple sources we have in our hands indicates that Islamic Jihad is responsible for the failed rocket launch which hit the hospital in Gaza,” he confirmed. Condemning the assailants, he added, “Those who brutally murdered our children also murder their own children.”

The spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces echoed Netanyahu’s sentiments, clarifying that the IDF’s operations were not directed towards hospitals. “We only target Hamas strongholds, arms depots, and terror targets,” the spokesperson emphasized, seeking to dispel any allegations to the contrary.

However, conflicting reports on the casualty count emerged, with initial estimates ranging from 200 to 300 fatalities, as per Palestinian sources, while the Gaza Health Ministry reported at least 500 deaths. The complex nature of the situation, with the Hamas-run government overseeing both departments, has complicated the accurate assessment of the casualties.

Reacting to the volatile situation, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), confirmed that investigations regarding the reported Israeli airstrike on the hospital were still ongoing. He pointed to evidence suggesting that the explosion might have been caused by a failed Hamas rocket launch, underscoring the prevalence of misleading information disseminated by Hamas.

In the midst of escalating tensions, Prime Minister Netanyahu doubled down on Israel’s determination to dismantle Hamas. “Hamas thought we would break; we will break Hamas,” Netanyahu declared during a recent cabinet meeting. Stressing the importance of solidarity and unity among the Israeli leadership, he conveyed a resolute message to both the adversaries and the international community.

As the Israel-Palestine conflict continues to escalate, the global community remains deeply concerned about the rising human toll and the persistent cycle of violence, urging both sides to exercise restraint and seek a peaceful resolution to the long-standing conflict.
