Mir Mohammad Farooq Nazki, a renowned broadcaster, poet, and Sahitya Akademi awardee, passed away at the age of 83 in a Katra hospital on Tuesday. Family sources reported that Nazki, unwell for the past few years, had relocated to live with his son in Jammu. On Monday night, he suffered a heart attack. His body is being transported from Jammu to Srinagar, where he will be laid to rest at the Malkha graveyard on Wednesday.

During his career, Nazki held significant roles at All India Radio Kashmir and Doordarshan. In 1995, he received the Sahitya Akademi award in Kashmiri for his poetry book “Naar Hyutun Kanzal Wanas” (Fire in the eyelashes). Additionally, he served as the media advisor to two chief ministers, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.

Condolences have poured in from various quarters mourning the loss of the veteran journalist. Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed deep sadness over the demise, praising Nazki’s literary brilliance and unparalleled media presence. Azad highlighted Nazki’s enduring impact on cultural and literary treasures, offering prayers for his peace and extending condolences to his family.
