Unprecedented floods in Pakistan have resulted in a widespread epidemic of infectious illnesses, posing a serious threat to inhabitants’ health.

According to Geo News, infectious illnesses in flood-affected parts of Sindh have reached a perilous level, claiming more than 1,500 deaths and costing the economy more than USD 30 billion. According to the health ministry, 12,000 cases of asthma, lung and chest-related diseases were recorded in Sindh in the previous 24 hours, with around 20,000 persons affected by skin disease and over 18,000 cases of diarrhoea.

According to health department data, infectious infections have harmed more than 2.5 million individuals in flood-stricken areas.

The World Health Organization recently voiced grave worry about the possibility of a “second disaster in Pakistan: a wave of diseases and deaths” as a result of the disastrous floods induced by climate change that have buried one-third of Pakistan. The WHO head urged responding fast to safeguard health and supply necessary health services after explaining the effects on health.

Furthermore, according to UNICEF, the “Super floods” in Pakistan have left 3.4 million children in need of immediate, lifesaving assistance.

This comes as the Monsoon rains have claimed over a thousand lives and unleashed strong floods that have swept away vast swaths of important crops and damaged or destroyed over a million houses since June.

In Pakistan, record monsoons and torrential floods have caused famine and numerous ailments that have afflicted 33 million people and are believed to have cost USD 30 billion.
