Bobby Deol and Salman Khan in a still from The Ba***ds of Bollywood
The preview for The Ba***ds of Bollywood dropped on Wednesday, and honestly, it landed with a bang. This series marks Aryan Khan’s first time calling the shots as a writer and director.
The show’s a sharp satire about the Bollywood industry, think drama, behind-the-scenes chaos, and all the quirks you’d expect from a world obsessed with stardom.
Shah Rukh himself showed up for the launch, standing front and center to back his son and say a few words about the project.
People online wasted no time sharing their thoughts. One viewer said you could watch this without knowing it’s Aryan’s debut, and you’d never guess, everything from the camera work to the casting just clicks.
Another person praised the show’s self-aware humour and how it refuses to take itself too seriously. And yes, there’s plenty of love for Aryan’s nods to his family legacy, with fans saying things like, “Aryan Khan proving why he’s Shah Rukh Khan’s son!”
Now, about that last scene, the Internet couldn’t stop talking. In the final moments, Lakshya’s character ends up behind bars, and a cop tells him, “Don’t worry, people become more famous after being locked up!” Cue the internet: comments rolled in about Aryan poking fun at himself, with fans genuinely loving the self-deprecation and inside jokes.
For anyone out of the loop, that jail scene’s a not-so-subtle callback to Aryan Khan’s arrest back in 2021. He was picked up by the Narcotics Control Bureau following a raid on a cruise ship in Mumbai, and spent 22 days in Arthur Road jail before eventually being cleared.
The Ba***ds of Bollywood features Sahher Bamba and Lakshya in the lead roles and is set to hit Netflix on September 18.
