The Indian Badminton Team brought laurels home as they as added another feather to their hat by winning The Thomas Cup, after defeating Indonesia with a soaring score of 3-0. The Badminton legends Satwik Sairaj and Chirag Shetty recently joined NewsX for a fun interview. In the exclusive conversation, the winning duo discussed their journey through the entire game.
For the first question, we asked the players how they feel about their victory, to which they replied ” We feel incredible. The entire team environment was phenomenal, and all of us are really happy, and I think we really witnessed something historic.”
Further, we asked them how did they manage to turn the tables at a game which was not in their court initially, to which they answered ” In the mid game interval we spoke to our coach and he told us that we need to stick to the plan and keep it simple. That’s how we were leading at 11-6, but after that, till the end we kept the pace stable, and well rest is history!”
We also asked them about how and what were their plans on proceeding with their opponents, to which they said ” going into the finals, we had a team model, and we only wanted to enjoy the game. So we knew that we just had to play and have fun.”
On asking about how did their coach inspired them, they wisely said ” he has been very supportive. He himself won Thomas Cup in 2014, so he shared his first hand experiences, so we had a great team made with us with his inputs and experiences.”
Talking about their understanding on playing together, they enthusiastically answered, ” one thing that really works well for us is that both of us are really good friends, and that helps us do better on court, so the partnership sustains on court and off court.
Further, we asked them what would they like to tell the kids about the doubles and singles perception as players on field, to which they said ” There is a lot of attention for singles all the time. But singles shift to doubles eventually. But we started with doubles in Under -15, that made us a professional.”
The conversation ended with a fun question on asking the players that if they were the team of avengers, who would have been whom, to which they enthusiastically answered that Captain America would’ve been the Captain of the team Chirag, The Incredible Hulk would be Satwik, and Iron Man would be HS Prannoy.
