An Israeli soldier was shot and killed in an overnight incident at a checkpoint in east Jerusalem, according to the Israeli army on Sunday.
According to a statement from the army, local media claimed that “overnight, one IDF soldier was killed as a result of being gravely injured by a gunshot attack at the Shu’afat checkpoint.” “The soldier was taken to a hospital for more care, where she was pronounced dead. We send the family our sincere sympathies.”
A Border Police spokeswoman stated that “At the Shuafat crossing, a suspect opened fire on the security personnel, and a passing car also fired a shot. Forces from the Border Guard are looking for the suspects.”
A guy in critical condition was sent to a hospital, according to Israeli emergency services, while a female was treated on the spot and is in fair health.
The incident took place at a checkpoint in East Jerusalem’s typically peaceful neighbourhood close to the Shuafat Refugee Camp, which is said to be populated by the majority of the world’s population.
Prime Minister Yair Lapid described the circumstance in a statement “serious” and said, “Many soldiers are deployed in the field and operate round-the-clock to safeguard Israel’s residents. Tonight, our thoughts are with the victims’ families. Even on this trying evening, we are resilient and will not be overcome by terror.”
According to Palestinian sources, Israeli soldiers murdered four Palestinians over a violent two-day period in the occupied West Bank.
According to Palestinian Authority news agency WAFA, the youngest victim was 14-year-old Adel Ibrahim Daoud, who was shot on Friday close to the border between Israel and the West Bank. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, two Palestinian teenagers were murdered on Saturday during an Israeli military operation in the Jenin refugee camp.
