The ruling UPA in Jharkhand has asked all of its MLAs to stay in Ranchi while the governor decides on Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The Election Commission recommended disqualification of Soren as MLA on Thursday due to the office of profit issue.

According to UPA sources, the UPA’s allies – Soren’s JMM, Congress, and RJD – called a meeting of MLAs in the morning on Friday and also invited them to the CM’s residence for a dinner where their signatures were taken.

According to sources, 45 of the UPA’s 50 MLAs attended the meeting. Three Congress MLAs are being held in jail in Kolkata after cash was allegedly seized from them by West Bengal Police.

“If needed, we can call those three MLAs too as they have not been terminated from the party and have only been suspended,” Jharkhand Congress chief Rajesh Thakur told media.

The meeting was attended by 29 of the 30 JMM MLAs, as one member, Basant Soren, was in Delhi. There were 15 of Congress’s 18 MLAs present, as well as the sole RJD member. According to sources, an independent MLA who supports the government was unable to attend the meeting due to health issues.

All MLAs expressed confidence in Soren’s leadership and stated that they are ready to accept any decision made over leadership if a situation arises.
