Trichy House Raid Yields Rs 1 Cr Ahead Of Tamil Nadu LS Polls

The Election Flying Squad confiscated Rs 1 crore in cash from a residence in Ettarai village, Tiruchirappalli, on Friday night, marking the first seizure of its kind before the Lok Sabha elections in the state.

Speaking to ANI over phone, District Collector Pradeep Kumar said, “The Election Flying Squad officers entered the house at Ettarai village in Tiruchirappalli and conducted a search. They found currency notes, totalling Rs 1 crore, stuffed in a bag.”

Kumar stated that the election control room at the Trichy District Collectorate received a call, leading to the discovery of the cash. He elaborated that upon receiving information about currency notes being stored at a house, officials from the Election Flying Squad visited the village.

The district collector mentioned that Income Tax officials are investigating the individuals responsible for storing such a large amount of cash at the residence and whether it was intended for use in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Further information is pending.

Polling for 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu is set to take place in the initial phase of the general elections on April 19. Vote counting is scheduled for June 4.
