India’s budget smartphone market just got fiercer. The newly launched Redmi 15 5G (August 19) faces off against the recently released Poco M7 Plus 5G (August 13), both offering near-identical specs yet jostling for supremacy under Rs.17,000.
Redmi 15 5G starts at Rs.14,999 for the 6GB + 128GB version and goes up to Rs.16,999 for 8GB + 256GB. It’s available from August 28 via Amazon, Xiaomi’s site, and offline channels.
Poco M7 Plus 5G undercuts slightly- Rs.13,999 for 6GB + 128GB and Rs.14,999 for 8GB + 256GB available from August 19 on Flipkart.
Both phones offer a spacious 6.9-inch FHD+ LCD, with 144Hz refresh rate, 288Hz touch sampling, and up to 850 nits brightness, all aiming for smooth visuals.
Under the hood, they share the same Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset, support up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM, and are powered by Android 15 with HyperOS 2.0, promising 2 years of OS upgrades and 4 years of security updates.
Redmi offers up to 256GB of storage, while Poco caps at 128GB even in its highest tier.
Both sport a 50MP dual rear camera and an 8MP front camera, with Redmi touting extra AI enhancements like AI Sky, beauty, and erase modes.
They match again with a massive 7,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, 33W fast charging, and 18W reverse charging ideal for long usage and sharing power.
Redmi adds Dolby-tuned speakers, Google Gemini integration, Circle to Search, IR blaster, and an IP64 rating.
Poco offers slimmed-down extras but maintains core features like IP64 and side fingerprint sensor.
Both smartphones deliver exceptional value with nearly identical hardware. If you want better storage, enhanced audio, and AI-powered tools, the Redmi 15 5G edges ahead. But if lower starting price and core performance matter most, the Poco M7 Plus 5G is a solid, more budget-friendly pick. Choice boils down to feature priorities, brand preference, and retail offers.
