It was announced that today is the final day to link PAN and Aadhaar. Individuals who haven’t linked their PAN and Aadhaar are advised to complete the process by the end of the day. The authorities have previously extended the deadline multiple times, but no further extension is expected this time.

According to the Income Tax Department, the last extension of the PAN-Aadhaar link deadline was announced in April 2023, allowing PAN card holders to link their PAN and Aadhaar until June 30.

Considering that today is the final date, it is recommended not to wait for further extensions. Individuals can efficiently complete the linking process on the Income Tax e-filing website within a few minutes.

In the event that the Permanent Account Number (PAN) becomes inoperative, individuals will be unable to use, disclose, or mention their PAN. Furthermore, they will be held accountable for all the consequences stated in the Act for this failure.

According to the information provided on the Income Tax website, failing to link PAN and Aadhaar can lead to several significant consequences:

Ineligibility for tax refunds: You will not be able to receive any tax refund or a portion thereof that may be due to you.

Non-payment of interest on refunds: If your PAN becomes inoperative and you fail to link it with Aadhaar, no interest will be paid on the rebate from the date your PAN became inoperative until you make it operative by linking it again.

Higher tax deduction (TDS): Tax will be deducted at a higher rate as per the Income Tax rules if your PAN and Aadhaar are not linked.

Higher tax collection at source (TCS) rate: If tax is collectable at source (TCS) in your case, it will be collected at a higher rate as per the provisions of section 206CC if your PAN and Aadhaar are not linked.

However, you can reinstate the operability of your PAN by linking it with Aadhaar and paying a fee of Rs 1000.
